Presenter: John Masters
Topic: The Impact of Power Quality on Technology
The guest speaker for this meeting was John Masters, Director of IT for a local
medical clinic administration business. The subject of the
presentation was "The Impact of Power Quality on Technology."
The stability and consistency of power to support electronic equipment
is vital to their reliable operation. The effects of sub-standard
power quality on server rooms, telco switches and other sensitive
electronics include increased service calls and reduced life-cycle.
The quality of service from the power company is not the issue - the
root problem is the improper distribution, electrical grounding and
related issues inside the structure. This issue tends to be more
prevalent and costly than most IT professionals realize. The
presentation will also review the impact of power quality on business
continuity and compliance.
