The guest speaker for this meeting was Dr. Ron Ross, a senior computer scientist and information security researcher at the Information Technology Laboratory, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD. His current areas of specialization include security assurance, criteria, evaluation, and testing. Dr. Ross also serves as the Director of the National Information Assurance Partnership, a joint activity of NIST and the National Security Agency and is the U.S. representative and Chairman of the Executive Subcommittee for the international mutual recognition arrangement for information technology security evaluations. Prior to joining NIST, Dr. Ross served as the principal investigator on several large information security-related projects to include definition of security requirements and security specifications for computer systems and networks, security capability assessments of commercial operating systems, and the development of a computer security research and education program.
