Presenter: DDavid W. Brooks, Ph.D.
Affiliation: University of Nebraska at Lincoln
The guest speaker for this meeting was David W. Brooks, Ph.D.,
Professor of Chemistry Education, University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
He discussed a very exciting area of software development
that has wide applications in education and industry. David presented an overview of
RunTime Revolution - www.runtime.com - an very powerful and elegantly
simple - object oriented scripting program. The program develops
faster, with less code, accomplishes more tasks and with less conflicts
than most coding techniques available.
David is using RunTime for the back-end to web sites, although there are
many different applications. The software can run off of a variety of
Operating Systems including Windows, Mac and UNIX. In addition, it can
run from any - to any OS, which makes it a highly desirable. The
history of the software includes Transcript, SQL, MediTalk, HyperTalk,
and SmallTalk (please forgive spellings). RunTime has common roots with
the rapid iteration programming techniques of Extreme Programming that
use SmallTalk and Java scripting. Examples were shown to illustrate
the value of the software to business and education.
With permission of the the presenter, the RunTime presentation has been provided for the ITC as a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. To read this file, you will need to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.
