Dr. Volker Roth currently works for the department Security Technology for Graphics and Communication Systems at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics (IGD) in Darmstadt, Germany. His primary research interests are applied cryptography, cryptographic protocols, distributed system security, mobile code, and the usability of security. He will be presenting an overview of these topics and answering questions from the audience.

Fraunhofer Society for the Advancement of Science is the largest European applied research organization with 58 distinct research divisions in 40 German locations and a yearly revenue of about one billion Euros, covering topics ranging from materials, micro electronics, life sciences, to information and communication technology.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics (IGD) located in Darmstadt, Germany, is a member of the International Network of Institutions for advanced education, training, and R&D in Computer Graphics technology, systems, and applications (INI-GraphicsNet), and has worked with a variety of companies such as BMW, Siemens, Daimler-Chrysler, and Mitsubishi Corporation.

INI-GraphicsNet believes in the mutual benefit of international cooperation and is strongly committed to the provision of high quality educational exchanges between Europe, the United States and Asia.

By setting up a branch in Omaha, located in the Scott Technology Center, INI-GraphicsNet strives to establish collaboration with local industry, research, and academia, and at the same time allows tapping into the rich resources of the networks of both Fraunhofer Society and the INI-GraphicsNet.

Mr. Roth's discussion presented an overview of the network, its structure and mission, and a variety of the technologies developed by its member institutes such as virtual and augmented reality, medical imaging, digital watermarking, and information assurance.
