The speaker for this meeting was Steve Nugen of NugenSoft. Mr. Nugen
discussed his experiences applying for government grants and provided an
overview of two popular programs. The SBIR Program (Small Business
Innovation Research) provides up to $850,000 in early-stage R&D funding
directly to small technology companies (or individual entrepreneurs who form
a company). The STTR Program (Small Business Technology Transfer) provides
up to $600,000 in early-stage R&D funding directly to small companies
working cooperatively with researchers at universities and other research
